Orientation

To complement the orientation provided within individual Departments, Programs and Schools, the Program for Faculty Development (PFD) hosts a twice-yearly faculty-wide interdisciplinary Orientation session held usually in April and October.

As well as assisting new full- and part-time faculty members in increasing their awareness of opportunities and expectations from their roles in education, the session acquaints new faculty members with some of the unique features of education, research, service and administration within the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster.

Participants are also provided with the opportunity to interact with other new faculty members and with various leaders of the Faculty. Through the orientation offered by Departments, Program and Schools and this Faculty-wide event, the following objectives will be met:

  • To increase understanding about the philosophy, function and structure of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • To increase awareness of education, service and research activities and activities for involvement.
  • To meet faculty leaders and colleagues from other disciplines
  • To learn more about the various programs, courses, workshops, etc. available for continuing faculty education and professional development
  • To assist new faculty with the preparation of a teaching portfolio and a clinical activities portfolio (if applicable) to meet the policies guiding promotion and tenure.
