Division of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Margaret Ackerman, Division Director of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Margaret Ackerman is the Division Director for
Emergency Medicine, Department of Medicine.

Welcome

Mission: To advance the unique profile of Emergency Medicine by enhancing clinical care through the fostering of innovative education and excellence in research.

Every year, over 200,000 people in the Hamilton region receive treatment in our four Emergency Departments and Community Health Centre by one of our 60 Emergency Physicians.

To enhance clinical care the Division is active in developing continuing professional development that focuses on knowledge transfer – taking the best evidence published in the literature and bringing it to the clinical decision making process for the best patient care.

Central to the Division is the education and training of future physicians. There is a clinical clerkship with a comprehensive curriculum of clinical experience, skills workshops, large group and small group learning. Residency education is provided in both streams, the CCFP(EM) and the Royal College, educating specialists in Emergency Medicine.
