Textbooks
Falling leaves on warm early September afternoons herald that classes are soon to resume. Restocking soon begins, as students trek to the bookstore, class lists and credit cards in hand, in preparation for the long haul over the next eight months.
Fall/Winter course material requirements will be posted on Learnlink. A hard copy of the required texts for each course can be found at any of the retail outlets on campus.
- Required material for Health Science courses can be purchased from the Mediashop located in the Health Science Centre 1G1
- Level I course materials can be purchased at the Mezz, located in the Ivor Wynne Centre. The Mezz bookstore is open in early September. After the third week in September, level I books may be obtained from the Tank.
- The Tank Bookstore houses Level II and III course material. The Tank is open in August until the end of the school year. It is located in Togo Salmon Hall B203 (just follow the fish on the walls!).
- Level IV course material can be purchased from Titles Bookstore, located in Gilmour Hall.
Being a starving student you definitely want to hunt down the best deals possible. From each bookstore, you can find your texts both new and used. For used texts it is often best to buy EARLY to ensure that there are in fact used copies available and that they are in good condition.
Buying used from the bookstore is not your only option. Some texts can be obtained used from upper year students. The Text-Mart folder in HSci Students Only on LearnLink was established precisely for this reason. Here used textbooks can be advertised or sought.
Some used texts can also be purchased online from marketplace booksellers, outside of MAC. Check out Amazon or Alibris to see if you can buy your text for a lesser price! Make sure that you are purchasing the right textbook though; double-check the title, author, edition and ISBN.
If you prefer to purchase your textbook brand-new and wrapped in cellophane, there is no reason not to hunt down the lowest price. Compare the bookstore price to those at Amazon or Chapters for example.
Some courses require you purchase custom courseware. Courseware can be a compilation of articles or text chapters or course and lab notes etc. These are designed by your professors and can be purchased through any of the university bookstores. Once purchased, courseware cannot be returned, so be sure that you will actually take the course. Courseware can also be purchased second-hand from upper year students. Please be sure that there have been no amendments/additions to the courseware when purchasing a used copy.
