The ASHS office wants to acknowledge the accomplished First Nations, Inuit and Métis men and women graduates of Health Sciences at McMaster. If you are Aboriginal or a non-Aboriginal ally with a Health Science degree or diploma we want you to be part of our Alumni Circle. As a member of the circle you will:

  • receive updates on events/ speakers/ funding opportunities;
  • stay linked with your graduating class;
  • establish and expand professional networks;
  • have an opportunity to mentor current and incoming students.

Featured ASHS Alumni:

Dr. Danielle Behn-Smith: Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine, University of Alberta.

Dr. Behn-Smith is often recognized for her work on the documentary series Medicine Woman which profiled her travels to global Indigenous communities learning from traditional healers. She also was a GP in the Yukon and is a current Board Member of the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC)

Dr. Thomas Dignan: A Community Medicine Specialist, First Nations and Inuit Health, Health Canada.

Dr. Dignan was the first First Nations graduate of the McMaster MD program. Prior to his MD degree he was a nurse and instructor at the post secondary level and initial president of the Native Physicians Association know known as IPAC.

Dr. Karen Hill: Lead Physician Six Nations Family Health Team, Associate Clinical Professor, Aboriginal Faculty and Community Liaison, Department of Family Medicine, McMaster University.

Dr. Hill was also the former Director and Coordinator for the ASHS office and is a member of the IPAC.
