Message from Chair of Research, Dr. James Paul
Welcome to the website for Department of Anesthesia Research. This site was designed to summarize our research activities, highlight important meeting dates and deadlines and to help students in their research pursuits.
Our department has a number of resources to assist both staff and residents with their research. Toni Tidy, our Department Research Coordinator, can assist with grant preparation and submission, CommonCV development and REB submissions. Dr. Lehana Thabane is a PhD biostatistician and research methodologist, that can assist with protocol development and statistical analysis. He is in the research office and available to meet with people on most Wednesday mornings. For those that want to discuss their research ideas or current project, the research group meets once a month, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 16:00. Researchers wishing assistance with their data analysis and sample size calculations need to present at this meeting before beginning their project, please contact Toni Tidy to attend.
Before launching a new study we recommend that staff and residents present their project at a Research Interest Group Meeting. These dinner meetings include a methodology presentation followed by one or two research proposal presentations. After a protocol is presented there is a round table discussion that discusses the finer points of the study design. The goal is to address any potential concerns before beginning.
