Contemporary Medical Acupuncture For Health Professionals
- Dr. Angelica Fargas-Babjak, Course Chair, Professor of Anesthesia
- Dr. Alejandro Elorriaga Claraco, Course Director
This 300 hours CME course is the most serious, accelerated program available in Canada for MDs, DOs, DCs, PTs, and Naturopathic Doctors, seeking to integrate Contemporary Medical Acupuncture into their clinical practice. Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a very practical, gentle, and effective therapeutic tool for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and common states of disregulation, such as fatigue, and digestive or gynecological disturbances. McMaster University is proud to be the first Medical School in Canada to offer comprehensive training for health professionals in this new medical discipline. The content of this original program includes all the recommendations from the World Health Organization’s 1999 guidelines in acupuncture education. The two leaders of the McMaster program are amongst the most respected Medical Acupuncture educators in the continent. Under the expert guidance of these senior lecturers a group of very competent and friendly instructors help course participants to acquire, step by step, all the practical skills necessary for the successful integration of this effective therapeutic tool into daily practice. The course is divided into five units; Unit 1 is the introduction to contemporary medical acupuncture, and the rest of the units focus on the specific treatment of common pain problems seen in everyday practice, and the medical acupuncture management of common states of disregulation. This totally practical approach allows participants the immediate “put to use” of all the material presented in the course. (300 Hours - AMA PRA Category 1) (126 MAINPRO-M1 Credits). The spring session will begin in February 2005 and will be offered again in the Fall of 2005. A “Contemporary Medical Acupuncture for Lower & Upper Extremity Sports Injuries” course is also being offered (February 2005, June 2005, September 2005, November, 2005), as well as an "Advanced Course in Contemporary Acupuncture Techniques for Headaches & Pain Problems of the Face & Neck" (October 28-30, 2005).
